Dublin 1956 by Peter Bock-Schroeder (1913-2001)

In 1956 Peter Bock-Schroeder accompanied american fashion designer Vera Maxwell on a trip to Ireland. Through the excellent contacts of Maxwell, Bock-Schroeder had the opportunity to photograph former Irish President Seán Thomas O’Kelly.

He also had access to photograph on the set of “Captain Lightfoot” with Rock Hudson. Bock-Schroeder met and photographed Dr. Robert Collis and Irish Poet Brendan Behan.

The majority of the images from the Irish series are cityscapes and portraits of ordinary people in Dublin.

Ingeborg “Inge” Morath (1923 – 2002) was an Austrian-born photographer. In 1953, she joined the Magnum Photos Agency, founded by top photographers in Paris, and became a full photographer with them in 1955. In 1955, she published her first collection of photographs, a total of 30 monographs during her lifetime. Morath was also the third and last wife of playwright Arthur Miller; their daughter is screenwriter/director Rebecca Miller.
